Background Information and Highlights

Reading Registry Office - also known as Reading Register Office - was in Castle Hill but has now moved into Reading Museum and Town Hall. Both are very well known by myself - I am located in nearby Burghfield Common. I have photographed and video'd weddings here dozens of times as you might expect. There is no parking available for the new Register Office so multi-storey car parks will need to be utilised.

Forbury Gardens is just a few yards from the Town Hall and is a lovely photogenic location for lots of portrait and group photos after your ceremony. Adjacent to Forbury Gardens are the ruins of Reading Abbey. And a little further afield is Christchurch Meadows and the beautiful Caversham Court Gardens.

This gallery illustrates some of the "getting ready" activity plus some of the post ceremony celebrations at private houses, hotels such as the Crowne Plaza Caversham (see Peter’s Crowne Plaza Hotel Wedding Photo Gallery) and the Roseate Hotel, which is just a few yards from the Register Office (see Peter’s Roseate Hotel Wedding Photo Gallery), restaurants and pubs.

The Office is very busy - especially Saturdays - so it is essential for brides, and everyone, to arrive in good time. This can also make things crowded for the outside photos so it may be a good idea to arrange for the photo session to take place at an alternative location.

The Registry Office staff are easy-going and helpful - even more so when they are at other civil marriage venues rather than under the pressure at the Register Office.

Many couples who book Reading Register Office prefer a strict target budget or may have low numbers of guests and so like to keep their professional photo coverage to just the one location and sometimes to include the nearby Forbury Gardens. Peter offers special short notice / short duration packages for this - please enquire.

The first photo above illustrates the Town Hall from the opposite end of Blagrave Street Reading. The register office ceremony room is immediately behind the tree in the foreground. For weddings you enter through the main doors in the centre of the building (beside the blue car in the photo). Things can get very busy and brides grooms and guests may not be allowed in until 30 minutes before their ceremony. There is very little nearby parking so if your driver is also to be a guest (e.g. father of the bride) do ensure that you allow sufficient time for them to drop off their car and return. Once the ceremony completes the staff usher you out via the pillared exit as seen beside the black car in the centre in the photo. The lovely photogenic Forbury Gardens are just a few yards away along Valpy Street Reading - on the left in the photo. Ceremonies in the main function room - called the Victoria Hall - of Reading Museum and Town Hall are on the first floor and may be entered via the doors on the extreme right of the photo. Confusing? You bet! Even more so because although civil ceremonies take place in the Town Hall, much administration is done in another building at the opposite end of town so do check that your guests are not going to the wrong location!
