Bride and groom join all their guests for a wedding group photo at Sonning Golf Club near Reading Berkshire
Background Information and Highlights
Sonning Golf Club is located on the eastern outskirts of Reading Berkshire and is just a few minutes away from the nearest M4 motorway junction - so it is easy to reach for your guests!
The club has been hosting weddings for many years and this shows in the polished professional service experienced. The facilities for photography are great - the main ceremony room opens out onto a large terrace area of which you have exclusive use on the day. Lots of paved areas so the ladies do not need to worry about sinking into grass in their high-heels. The borders have mature plants and shrubs and, most importantly of all for photography, there is plenty of shade afforded by a large tree - this matters if the sun is very bright as otherwise it can be tricky to achieve flattering skin tones in portraits.
The registrars responsible for weddings at Sonning Golf Club are from the nearby Wokingham Register Office. As always they were a real pleasure to work with.

Many brides like to have their photo coverage start from the girls getting ready either at home or at a nearby hotel. Peter usually commences with some detail shots of the dresses, shoes, bouquets, jewellery etc and these look great in wedding albums
This father of the bride is a great character and was a terrific subject for photos and even more so for the video as his speech was a real cracker!
The pageboys and groomsmen for this wedding at Sonning Golf Club were so stylish

We had rain on and off for much of the day but we got away with things!
Some couples have their wedding ceremony at a local church whilst others have a civil ceremony at Sonning Golf Club. This bride and groom were married at the lovely Christchurch Church just to the south of Reading town centre

Once the civil marriage register has been completed and signed the registration staff arrange for a pretend signing - the real signing cannot be photographed or video’d. The staff encourage the guests to come forward to shoot their own photos of the bride and groom together with the witnesses and sometimes some of the VIP guests as well

Most of Peter’s clients prefer to have much of the wedding day photography in a candid “reportage” style but do add some semi-posed portraits and group photos for obvious reasons. Usually Peter liaises with the bride and groom a few days beforehand to put together a must-have photoshoot list. This photo above was shot by Peter from the Sonning Golf Club first floor flat roof as it enables everyone in large groups to be clearly seen. Sometimes he stands on a table or chair as an alternative - stepladders are not normally readily available but welcome if found!
The hydrangeas and other shrubs and flowers make for a lovely backdrop for wedding photos at Sonning Golf Club
The large mature tree just outside the rear of the wedding venue is perfect for the shaded areas that work better than strong direct sunlight for portraits etc
The decking under the mature tree is a godsend for the guests wearing high heels
There are always some great character photos of the guest throughout the day
Father of the bride makes his speech during the wedding breakfast
During the speeches some couples have a projector to illustrate some key moments throughout their earlier lives
Peter often uses two or more video cameras especially during the speeches. He can shoot both photography and video at the same time so nothing is lost. Photos are great but video is even better!
Often it is the best man who embarrasses the groom during the speeches but on this occasion it fell to the dad!
The cutting of the wedding cake is a must-have moment for photos and video
