Lets get something understood right away! This gallery is unlike most other galleries on Peter's site because Newbury Registry Office - also known as Newbury Register Office - seems to Peter to attract lots of couples who prefer short duration photographic coverage and lots of group photos and portraits. Peter may offer special short duration terms - please enquire. If you are interested in longer durations - perhaps starting with the girls getting ready, then the ceremony at the registry office, and finishing in the evening at one of the very many local wedding venues, and additional styles of photography - please do have a browse on some of the other Ashton Lamont galleries, for example Reading Registry Office, Esseborne Manor and The Old Mill Aldermaston.
Anyway, Newbury Register Office is located just north of the town centre and close to the junction of the M4 and A34 - so its easily reached. There is plenty of onsite parking; parking access is closed until shortly before the opening time.
The building - Shaw House - is a handsome old Elizabethan mansion. Both inside and outside, with the mature gardens, are great for photos. Shaw House can be busy as its also open for tourists, plus several weddings may be booked per day so don't be late!
Peter has worked at this wedding venue lots of times and with most of the registrars at the various other local venues. The registration staff are in the main very helpful and do not make onerous restrictions on professional photography and video.
The first photo below illustrates the Elizabethan mansion Shaw House which houses the Register Office:
Sometimes if there are low numbers of guests the ceremony may be conducted in one of the smaller function rooms. Check with your registrars in good time if you prefer the larger room:
If the weather is poor and if there is sufficient time allowed by the staff it is possible to shoot some group photos inside Shaw House:
The next few photos were shot by Peter in the gardens outside a local restaurant:
Some couples book grand reception venues and others prefer more modest surroundings such as a local pub-restaurant:
This couple chose the Hare and Hounds Hotel in Speen on the outskirts of Newbury for their informal wedding reception:
All content on this site is the copyright of Peter Riding of Ashton Lamont. Do not steal. I have a very particular set of skills I have acquired over a long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. Do not steal now, and that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you do steal, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you. (With appreciation to Bryan in "Taken").
