Sonning Golf Club is located on the eastern outskirts of Reading Berkshire and is just a few minutes away from the nearest M4 motorway junction - so it is easy to reach for your guests!
The club has been hosting weddings for many years and this shows in the polished professional service experienced. The facilities for photography are great - the main ceremony room opens out onto a large terrace area of which you have exclusive use on the day. Lots of paved areas so the ladies do not need to worry about sinking into grass in their high-heels. The borders have mature plants and shrubs and, most importantly of all for photography, there is plenty of shade afforded by a large tree - this matters if the sun is very bright as otherwise it can be tricky to achieve flattering skin tones in portraits.
The registrars responsible for weddings at Sonning Golf Club are from the nearby Wokingham Register Office. As always they were a real pleasure to work with.
The first photo below shows the imposing frontage to Sonning Golf Club:
The next photo - shot with a special wide-angle lens - shows the main function room at Sonning Golf Club prepared ready for the wedding ceremony:
Photography usually starts with some scene-setting photos of the venue exterior and interior followed by the girls getting ready. Detail shots of the dress, shoes, flowers etc make a great start for albums:
The bride may get ready at home - as in some of the earlier photos - or at the venue. Some brides like the getting ready to be photographed and others prefer the coverage to start once she is fully dressed and ready to start her processional for the ceremony:
This bride had her marriage ceremony at Christ Church on the southern outskirts of Reading before adjourning to the Sonning Golf Club for the reception:
Sonning Golf Club is of course licensed for wedding ceremonies:
The registrars are fine with professional photography and video during the wedding ceremony:
Once the wedding ceremony is over the registrars invite guests to shoot their own photos of the bride and groom with the marriage register:
Confetti is allowed outside at the front of the club:
At the rear of Sonning Golf Club there is a flat roof. This is a great vantage point from which to shoot big group photos as the high elevation enables everyone to be seen as in the next photo:
The terrace at the club was surrounded by lovely in-flower hydrangeas - a great backdrop for posed photos like this:
The gardens at terrace at Sonning Golf Club are a delightful backdrop for the must-have photos:
The shaded area underneath the big tree on the terrace has decking surrounding it - ideal for the ladies in their high heels when the grass might otherwise be too damp and soft:
The wedding breakfast is a terrific time to shoot some character photos of the guests:
The wedding speeches work great on video - even better than with photos - as you do of course get to hear what was said. Imagine being able to replay that years from now!
These speeches were accompanied by a slideshow:
The evening including the first dance can be included in the photography and / or video coverage. On the occasion of these two brides the coverage ended after the speeches. You can browse lots of "evening" wedding parties in the other Galleries.

But if you do steal, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you. (With appreciation to Bryan in "Taken").
