Our bride and groom chose the Thames riverside location of the Crowne Plaza Hotel Caversham Reading Berkshire for their wedding ceremony and reception.
The Crowne Plaza Hotel Reading is to be found just a short distance north of the town centre and is therefore easily reached from junctions 10 and 11 of the M4 motorway and from the mainline railway and coach stations. The hotel has plenty of its own onsite secure parking.
The exterior has a small well kept garden suitable for formal wedding photos, and just a short walk away are meadows bordering the River Thames and of course the elegant Caversham Bridge. There is always a lot of wildlife in attendance including swans and canada geese. The interior has a roomy sophisticated vibe.
Our couple chose a short duration photography and video package commencing shortly before the start of the wedding ceremony and finishing after the wedding breakfast speeches.
The registrars responsible for wedding and civil partnerships at the Crowne Plaza Reading are from the local Reading Register Office and as is normally the case they were a pleasure to work with - no awkward restrictions on professional photography and video during the ceremony. As with most offices they do ask that guests refrain from shooting their own photos whilst the ceremony is underway (there is an opportunity at the end) so the celebrants were taken aback that one guest chose to ignore the request and wander around very close to our couple shooting throughout! They chose to bite their lips on this occasion rather than stop the ceremony - which happens elsewhere. But couples: if you know you have an photography enthusiast guest attending please do ask them to restrain their urges as they will cause distractions to other guests and they certain to compromise the professional photography and video coverage! Grrr!!!
The weather on the day was bright but very cold and breezy. We managed to get outside for a few of the essential posed group photos and of course some photos of our bride and groom; the other group photos were completed in the hotels lounge and foyer area.
Peter started the coverage with some establishing shots of the imposing exterior of the Crowne Plaza Reading:
The venue's riverside position is a great asset but sadly conditions were just too cold to make use of it. Anyway, here is how it looks from Caversham Bridge:
Soon the wedding ceremony was underway and Peter was able to shoot a nice selection of photos and video throughout including this shot of our bride settling nervously into the swing of things:
Guests kept an attentive eye on the proceedings - and some an attentive eye on Peter!
The shooting angles were tricky as the "action" was in one corner of the L-shaped room but with a bit of contortion the ring exchange was captured:
Then the presentation of the marriage certificate:
Our couples South African and Zimbabwean connections meant there were some extra traditions included in the ceremony:
And in the wedding breakfast afterwards:
What a glorious wedding cake!
