Our couple chose the busy and popular wedding venue the London Shenley Club near Radlett in Hertfordshire for their marriage ceremony and wedding reception.
Just to avoid any confusion, the London Shenley Club had a change of name in late 2015 and was formerly known as the Shenley Cricket Centre. An inspired move as this excellent wedding venue is so much more than a cricket club with event facilities for hire - which might be the impression given by its former name. The location is north of London a few minutes from junction 22 or the M25, midway between Watford St Albans and Barnet and so is easily reachable for the guests.
The club is based around the Victorian pavilion. Within the main building are two bars - one on the ground floor and a second on the first floor. The ground floor hosts wedding ceremonies licensed for up to 100 people. The large pretty upper room is a great location for the after the ceremony drinks - especially if the weather outside is difficult, which was very much the case on this day. The pavilion converts to the smaller of two marquees and this is the one which Sian and Ben used for their wedding breakfast. The exterior has extensive well-kept grounds - ideal for the group photos and portraits ..... weather permitting!
The Weather on the day deserves a special mention: it was cold cold cold! The first really chilly day of the year and made even more testing by a strong northerly wind. This meant we had to keep the outdoor photos to a bare minimum, just a few of Sian and Ben before they had to rush back inside to recover. Peter shot all the various guest group photos were shot in the upper bar as we couldn't expect the guests to venture outside. Peter always carries extensive portable lighting equipment for just such eventualities.
Our bride and groom booked an all day combined photography and video package starting with a few portraits of Sian and her entourage at a local hotel and finishing shortly after the first dance.
The registrars responsible for wedding ceremonies at the London Shenley Club are from the nearby Watford Register Office. As always they were a real pleasure to work with.
The first photo below shows the main entrance to the London Shenley Club. You'll see that its cricketing heritage is displayed and indeed it does host local and international cricket matches and corporate events:
The wind sure was strong on the day!
Peter shot a few detail photos and portraits before departing for the main venue:
You can see the Victorian pavilion complete with its marquee prepared ready for the wedding breakfast in the next set of photos:
Our bride and groom enjoyed a short drive around the country lanes in their vintage red Jaguar after their wedding ceremony:
Peter shot all the group photo inside the London Shenley Club in the modern bar upstairs. There was no way we could ask the guests to venture outside in the extreme cold and wind!
Peter shot a selection of semi-posed photos of guests with their partners:
The speeches are always a great photo opportunity - and an even better video opportunity!
