This small selection of 22 images in random order from the original clients gallery of 436 illustrates Berkshire wedding photography by photographer Ashton Lamont, at a wedding / reception at Beaumont House Windsor. Shooting usually runs right through the day from getting ready in the morning to the first dance and beyond in the evening. Beaumont House in old Windsor is has a deceptively modern appearance from the front. And indeed the main reception and adjoining areas are very swish. Much of the building available for weddings is more olde worlde. Beaumont House is also known as the Principal Hayley Hotel and Conference Centre Windsor.
Whilst the girls were getting ready elsewhere in the hotel some stiff drinks were prepared for the boys. Yikes! Meanwhile the girls were taking things much more seriously. Its nice to have some champagne or sparkling wine available during the long getting ready process. Just be careful where that bottle is pointing when you pop the cork!
The getting ready photography usually starts about two hours before the ceremony - any earlier tends to be too early. Detail shots of the dress shoes flowers and so on are shot plus some of the general hubbub. The detail shots are great for background images in montages in flushmount wedding albums.Of course your designer shoes perfume etc deserve special attention. You'll see the groom and bestman tring to reassure each other before the ceremony - rather unconvincingly! - then the groom moments before the start of the wedding ceremony and having some last minute words with his mum and bestman.
First on the scene were the bridesmaids and flowergirls. Its great to get some close ups of the wedding party and guests during the ceremony. Long lenses are used so that the subjects are often unaware they are being photographed and some lovely natural expressions and emotions are captured.
The Maidenhead and Windsor Register Office is responsible for ceremonies at Beaumont House. These registrars are some of the best in the country and often go out of their way to facilitate photography. This wedding had two videographers with tripods present so it was not possible to obtain all the images I would have liked, for example a close up shot of the rings actually being exchanged. At the end of the ceremony the registrars present the couple with their certificate. The Windsor registrars do this with a flourish, which is great. In some other districts and at some churches the certificate is handed over with no greater sense of occasion than if the couple had just bought bus tickets!
Although this was a July wedding we had very poor weather. In fact there was widespread flooding and many of the guests made epic journeys to be present. Fortunately Beaumont House has many indoor photogenic areas such as this foyer to the main old entrance. All images are shot in colour and then a selection are converted to black and white and displayed in both colour and black and white versions in your galleries. Any image can be supplied in black and white. A few brave souls ventured out onto the terrace at the rear of Beaumont House during an all too brief interlude of sunshine in the cocktail hour. The venue does have good landscaped gardens suitable for formal wedding photography - weather permitting!
Julie and Mike arranged for a magician to entertain the guests during the wedding breakfast. At weddings magicians tend to work with small groups of guests at their tables or outside rather than putting on a grand show. The speeches are a good photo opportunity and if there is sufficient space between tables its possible to capture some great group shots as well as the individual guests.
Later in the evening we were able to venture outside for a few formal and fun photos. Beaumont House has a large pond and water features in the rear gardens which are a nice backdrop.
You'll see that the rear of Beaumont House is far more photogenic than the front. It has a network of gravel paths so the grounds become usable even shortly after heavy rain. Here we were able to photograph the groom with all his mates without anyone risking getting their feet wet!No-one was going to let the weather - or the temporary lack of female dancing partners - get their spirits down! The Sounds of Swing Orchestra provided live music in the evening. Swing bands are always great for getting people in a party mood.
